* I bought this for my grandson who recently turned 4. He’s really into trucks and dinosaurs; so this dino carrier truck was definitely worth a shot.* The dino truck itself has a reasonably large size. The kid likes to grab it and scoot around the house with it. The wheels are of reasonable quality. On a wooden or tile floor, if you push the truck and let it go, it will travel fast and far. The flashing lights and sounds work well (my only quibble with the electronics is that they run off of 3 button cell batteries, rather than AAA or AA). So far, so good.* But there are two major negs for the dino truck itself. The first are the plastic side panel doors. They are difficult to open. The kid could not do it at all. Each door is held shut with a bottom snap latch (using an el-cheapo detent). You (an adult) need to push up on the latch to release the detent, and then swing the door open. This requires two hands: one hand needs to support the truck body, while the other hand opens the door. You need to hold the truck body carefully; otherwise, the door hinge will pinch the supporting hand when the door opens. And, although the doors are difficult to open intentionally, they readily pop open if the kid crashes the truck against a wall, door, or furniture. The enclosed mini vehicles will then spill out. Better door latches are definitely needed.* The second neg is the launch ramp. Doesn’t work at all. You can flip open the top of the dino head to uncover a launch ramp down the throat. In principle, you can roll one of the included mini dinos and vehicles along the top of the truck and release it; it will then roll down the ramp, launch out the mouth, roll onto the floor, and scoot away. Would be great if it worked. But the mini dinos (with the pull-back motors) go too fast and overshoot the launch ramp. And the mini vehicles (no motors) either get stuck in the mouth or, at best, just drop out of the mouth without rolling away. The head is just too short: the launch ramp is initially steep and then takes a sharp bend to flatten out. Just doesn’t work. A much longer head with a more gradual, extended ramp would be needed for the launcher to work properly.* The included mini dinos and mini vehicles are better than I expected, given that there are 12 of them. They are well-made, have a lot of detail, and are very colorful. The 8 mini dinos (with pull-back motors) zip surprisingly fast. There are 2 trucks and 1 boat that have just wheels (no motors), and they also travel fast and far when pushed and released on a hard floor. The helicopter has no motor and no wheels. But the kid has a lot of fun holding it and pretending to fly it.* Overall a mixed bag. I don’t expect the door latches to hold up; and I’ll then install different ones. I’ll find out how long the batteries last and decide whether they are worth replacing (the flashing lights and sounds are fun, but they are not essential to the operation of this toy). And I just won’t bother with the launcher at all. Otherwise the kid loves this toy.
