Fun, but not the easiest to use. The box says ages 4+, but my 7yo had trouble with wrapping the yarn and cutting. The instructions are very vague about how to complete the steps (we found out that you're supposed to wrap multiple layers of yarn on the guide, but that makes it harder to cut; there was no explanation on how to handle the ends of the yarn when you're wrapping, and it's not clear about the fact that you yank the entire guide in half HARD to get the completed pompom out). I would advise that you attach the keychain before fluffing or adding other accessories, as it's pretty much impossible to find the middle again to hook it on after you complete those steps. The instructions say to put the keychain on last and that doesn't really work. Also, super glue will hold the accessories on better than the glue provided, as what's provided takes quite a while to dry, is to slippery and things fall off too easily while it's still wet, and doesn't hold as solidly. It's a good size kit for a kid, but I think it's overpriced, given the issues I've mentioned.
As a Stay-at-Home Grandma, I've tried a lot of craft kits, but this is probably one of the most annoying ones so far. The grandkids were super excited to create their own monsters, but were quickly disappointed that they couldn't build the pom poms themselves. It's supposed to be for ages 4 and up, but even my 5 year old grandkids had trouble, and they're great with their hands. Even as an adult, it wasn't easy. The included instructions aren't great, but there is a very helpful video on Amazon. My first attempt just fell apart, but after watching the video, I realized I didn't tie the final string tight enough. After that, creating the large pom poms was simple, but cutting them on the tool still takes some hand strength. I couldn't actually get the smaller tool to stay together, so we only used the larger one. The glue that was included in the kit was dried up, so we had to use our own school glue. Once the pom poms were made, the kids had fun adding faces and accessories. However, once the glue dried, they promptly fell apart within minutes of being handled. I re-glued them myself, and they still fell apart the second time. We still have a lot of supplies, but nobody has been interested in trying it again. This kit has a lot of colorful yarn and accessories, but for younger kids, it's just not a great value to me.
This is a lovely activity kit that can be for way more than just rainy days. In current times, customization and personalization is very popular with most people, myself included, but seemingly even more so with young kids in school, as there is a strong desire to make one’s backpack, lunch bag, etc reflect one’s own personality. It’s always a fun topic of conversation, and an even more fun opportunity for doing an imaginative activity together. This box of supplies sets everything up nicely with an assortment of 6 different colored yarns, various small pom-poms, a large handful of colorful parts, and another handful of various accessories including items to convert the newly created pom-pom creature into a keychain. Importantly of course, there are two pom-pom makers, one for big creations and one for small ones. As someone who is not necessarily gifted with regard to arts and crafts, I was grateful for the step-by-step instructions with colored pictures to walk me through the process for the first few iterations. I think it is definitely something that will require mom and dad to develop a little bit of familiarity with prior to first introducing it to the little ones as it’s helpful to already know what you’re doing for the first time as they will likely be excited to get their hands into all these bright colored fun-looking parts and objects. This is a gift that can keep the family busy for a nice block of time, and perhaps even help create some precious memories while doing so.
I will say this a little difficult to get the hang of at first, especially for littles. The first time took us like half an hour to figure it out. However, once you understand it, it's one of those things you could do over and over while watching TV. It's turned into a fun regular activity with my daughter to make cute little monsters. So much so that we actually went out and bought more yarn and a big thing of googly eyes (the maker device is definitely reusable and I could honestly see it lasting a loooong time, well after the rest of the kit has run out). Everything seems to be good quality and it does stay stuck as long as you use a generous amount of glue. We love the self expression that goes into each character. My 3yo can even make some herself as long as I do the cutting and tying. We even made some to be gifts to others and of course they are well loved bc who wouldnt love a handmade gift from a child. Excellent choice for crafty kids. Some tips when making them:However much yarn you use determines the thickness of the ball, as you can see in my pic there is a variety of shagginess. Keep in mind if you make one full and completely tight it will use up the majority of the color yarn you used.Use a huge glob of glue to get the pom poms to stay, the soak up the glue and the yarn soaks it up so you need more than it seems. And lastly add some tinsel to make it extra special! For extra fun, hide the monsters around the house and make it a scavenger hunt :)
My kids have thoroughly enjoyed making these pom pom monsters. The box says for ages 4+ but there is no way a 4 year old could do this solo. My 9 year old needed me to help with the first one but then got the hang of it. My 5 year old definitely could not do it on her own. We had trouble getting the accessories to stay on with the glue provided but eventually it worked. I docked a star because the yarn trimmings caused a huge mess. I guess if you cut everything over the trash can you'd have less of a mess, but overall there are just so many pieces that it quickly over took our entire dining room table and we struggled to get it all to fit back into the box after each use. Overall, my kids have really enjoyed it - it would make a great rainy day craft project!
I usually really like products from this brand, but this kit was a little disappointing. The directions were small and a bit confusing, so I had to take a picture on my phone just to read them clearly. The biggest issue was getting the pom‑poms tight enough. The yarn slipped out easily, even when I tied it as tight as I could, because the center rod leaves extra space inside. Using more yarn helped, but the included yarn broke several times when I tried to tighten the knots. The plastic pom‑pom maker also feels thin and could be designed better to hold the yarn securely without leaving that gap. You will need a good pair of sharp tip scissors to cut through the yarn. Everything else you need is in the kit, but the overall design made the pom‑poms harder to make than expected.
I ordered this kit for my daughter, who is currently 6 and loves making crafts. The first thing that stood out to me when I opened the box is the number of accessories and the amount of yarn included with the kit. My daughter should be able to create a monster pompom army...and I'm sure she will! The instructions appear easy to follow. However, I would consider this to be a "supervised activity" since it does require the use of scissors and glue. Older children may be able to handle creating monster pompoms on their own, but I'm going to monitor my daughter and help her as needed. The pink tool allows you create larger pompoms, while the blue tool is used for smaller monsters; parent and child monsters if you'd like.I do like all of the options included with this kit. There's a number of different eyes, mouths, and accessories you can use to customize each pompom monster. I would say that this kit is definitely worth the price, given all of the options and the amount of yarn provided for your little creations!
This kit is a bit hard for kids 4+ to play. It takes more dexterity and i think ages 7+ would be more appropriate. Once put together, the pompoms are extra soft and fluffy. The instructions included as well are tiny and poorly written. A QR code would have been helpful. I ended up finding a video online to figure it out. I felt this was also a bit expensive. Overall, this is about a 3.5 star experience.
What a fun craft kit! This kit will provide a few hours of supervised fun and discovery for the right aged kid, around 4 or 5. I emphasize supervision, because there are a LOT of little parts in this kit. In fact, if you don't use the kit all in one sitting, I suggest some ziplocs for storing, as it will be unlikely to fit back in the box. It also comes with illustrated step by step instructions. Definitely a lot of activity time for the $20 (2026) price tag! The package came just a few days after ordering, and is attractively packaged with no wasted space.
Update: The instructions are really not clear and easy to understand. Because it comes with so much and Its very possible maybe it's just me and I'm not the most crafty person and perhaps other people will understand easily what I can't I'm giving it 3 stars. I don't see how a 4 year could do this when the instructions are not clear for myself as an adult. Even upon following certain directions there doesn't even seem way to accomplish what is being told to do. Its not a complete waste because it comes with plenty that you can use for other crafts but for me this specific one is impossible and even if an adult did understand they would have to do the majority of the work for a young child. Because even with mistakes I have plenty of yarn and pieces that I can use elsewhere it's not a complete loss but I would be surprised to see anyone say that they did this and easily got it on the first try let alone a 4 years old.Initial review:This comes with a LOT! So much so that its a bit overwhelming at first glance. I wish it came with a bigger bottle of glue but I'll just have to use it sparingly. There is a nice variety of colors and accessories and plenty of things to use and create all kinds of pom poms or even other things if you'd like as it comes with plenty of yarn and items you can easily use for other arts and crafts and still have plenty to create monsters as intended with this kit. It looks difficult at first glance but there's so much you can do and redo that you kind of can't get it wrong and even if you do you have so much to fix or replace or redo it. The items are decent quality and for the most part safe. The yarn is very soft. This is a great gift or idea for anyone into crafting and creating or having fun with their hands and imagination. Its a great way to spend a rainy day at home spending quality time with kids or to use as a project in a small classroom setting. Lots of creativity and building for those with an interest in making things comes to life and plenty of variety as far as the items and what you can do with them. Definitely worth it for the price especially since this can go a long way and last for a long time making it so you can spend days having this to pull out and have fun with to pass the time. For $30 the quality and the quantity and the creativity and variety are very much worth it and kids get excited as soon as they see the box and then become very engaged once they get to play with what's inside.
The loom tools in this kit work well, and every material you need is in the box. The trouble is figuring out how to use them. The written guidance is thin, and we had to learn most of the process by trial and error. Each loom has two hinged halves, and each half has two arms. Open both arms on one half and wind yarn snugly around the pair of them, so they're tied together as one bundle. Close that half, then repeat on the other. You can cut the yarn and start a fresh piece partway through without any problem. Once both halves are wound and the loops are cut, take a separate piece of yarn and wrap it around the middle of the loom, then knot it tightly. It helps to think of a yo-yo. The two wound halves are the sides, and the knotted yarn is a new string tied around the axle between them. The included directions don't get that across. There's a single small photo, a note to wrap one arm tightly, and a note to tie two tight knots in the center. Our first couple of attempts went wrong before we understood the actual steps. The directions also never say how much yarn each pom pom needs. The answer is a lot more than you'd guess. On our first try, we wound the arm only a few times until it was covered. When we cut it, we didn't get a fluffy ball. We got a limp clump of loose yarn strands. Keep winding well past the point where it looks like enough. There are two loom sizes for making two sizes of pom poms, but nothing says which size suits which part of the creature. We had to guess. With clearer instructions, this would be an easy kit to recommend. As it is, expect a few failed pom poms before you get it right.
My daughter was really excited to try this kit because she is currently very into making bracelets and keychains. She was especially excited about making the little pom pom monsters and hanging them from her backpack. The yarn and materials are colorful and fun, which definitely adds to the appeal when you first open the kit. We sat down and worked on the craft together, but even with both of us following the directions, there were a few parts where we were confused about exactly what we were supposed to do.We eventually figured our way through it and completed the project according to the instructions, but our finished pom pom monster did NOT look like the adorable one pictured on the box. Not even close, lol. We tried a few times with similar results.Durability was another issue for us. Our pom pom started falling apart, so even if we had been happier with how it looked, I am not sure how well it would have held up hanging from a backpack and being carried around every day.My daughter did have fun making them, and I enjoyed the time we spent together doing the craft, so the experience itself was still enjoyable. Unfortunately, the finished creations were pretty underwhelming compared to what was advertised. The kit is also a little on the pricier side for something I do not see us using again. Considering the difficulty we had with the instructions, the finished appearance, and the pom pom falling apart, I do not think the value was there for us. Instead of becoming cute backpack keychains, ours ultimately ended up in the trash.I really wanted to love this kit because the concept is adorable and the colorful materials definitely caught my daughter's attention. For us, though, it was a bit of a bust as far as the finished product was concerned. At least we got some fun mother and daughter craft time out of it!
Such a cute gift was very fun to use and all the items were good, it’s a great gift to give for kids, fun activity for sure! Very happy with this!
My little ones absolute loved crafting these fuzzy little creatures, though the recommended age on the box is a total joke. There is zero chance a four-year-old tackles this independently. My oldest caught on quickly after I guided her through the first one, but my five-year-old needed constant supervision. The included glue was pretty much useless at keeping the accessories attached, though we finally managed to get them to stick after some persistence. I ended up dropping a star in my rating strictly because trimming all that yarn created an absolute disaster zone. Trimming everything directly over the garbage can helps mitigate the fuzz explosion, but the sheer volume of tiny parts means it instantly takes over your entire dining table, and packing everything back into the original box is a nightmare.Despite the cleanup chaos and storage struggles, the kids had an absolute blast making them—it’s a stellar option for keeping everyone busy on a rainy afternoon. Its an ok value for money for a little bit older ages. The quality is pretty decent and its fun and soft.
This is a fun and high quality set that the cousins all had fun with. The kids that could actually do this art project was 6-9 and the younger kids had some difficulty and needed lots of help. The instructions are easy to follow, but you do need a sharp scissors to correctly assemble. I would say this is worth the money and would buy again.
Really fun pom pom kit! We did this with my 2 and 4 yo. The kids enjoyed playing with the yard and running around more than anything. The 4yo usually likes crafts but this set requires an adult to do most of the beginning because wrapping it around the tool was labor intensive and particular. The instructions were a little bit confusing to start. One thing to note is that the pom pom device comes apart completely. You might think it would break but it doesn't.The set provides so much. We only made two to start. The kids enjoyed deciding on the yarn and the faces. I like that this set isn't really one time use and can be used mulitple times. With that, it is worth the value for the money. The pom poms look cute. The glue is fine but any glue will really do as long as you give it time to dry. You can make different sizes and variety of pom poms which is great.
